On May 29, 2021, at approximately 11:45p.m. Hamden Police responded to Alltown Fresh, 1941 Dixwell Avenue on the report of an “attempted carjacking.”
Investigation revealed that a 29-year-old Meriden resident entered the store, while leaving his motor vehicle running. While he was inside of the store, a stolen vehicle, with three occupants, entered the parking lot. A 20-year-old New Haven resident emerged from the stolen vehicle and entered the victim’s vehicle. The 20-year-old then placed the vehicle in reverse, nearly striking a female, that attempted to intervene.
As the 20-year-old attempted to exit the parking lot, the owner of the vehicle exited the store and ran towards his vehicle. The 20-year-old subsequently exited the vehicle, reportedly in the possession of a firearm. The owner of the vehicle then removed a firearm from his waistband and fired one shot, striking the 20-year-old in the leg. The 20-year-old was able to enter the stolen vehicle, that he arrived in. He was driven to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
The investigation is continuing and arrests are expected.
