On January 1, 2021 at 1:38a.m. Hamden Police responded to the area of 2200 Whitney Avenue on the report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a motor vehicle that was operated by James McKenna, 55, of North Haven was traveling southbound on Whitney Avenue. A motor vehicle that was operated by Taya Petteway-Campbell, 22, of Hamden was traveling northbound on Whitney Avenue. Campbell’s vehicle crossed the double yellow center markings and crashed, head-on, into McKenna’s vehicle.
McKenna was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with life threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. Petteway-Campbell was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with serious injuries.
