On December 23, 2019 at approximately 12:05a.m. Officer Gabriel Garcia observed a motor vehicle traveling northbound on Dixwell Avenue at a high rate of speed. The operator of the vehicle failed to stop at several traffic control signals. Officer Garcia subsequently conducted a motor vehicle stop.
Upon approaching the vehicle, Officer Garcia smelled marijuana emanating from inside of the vehicle. Investigation led to a search of the vehicle. Officers seized a firearm, which was located in the center console of the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle was promptly arrested and transported to police headquarters.
Hamden Police arrested a 17 year-old Hamden resident. He was charged with Weapons in a Motor Vehicle, Carrying a Pistol without a Permit and Possession of Marijuana. The juvenile, who was transported and detained at the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center, is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven on January 7, 2020.
