On July 20, 2019 at approximately 4:30p.m. Hamden Police responded to the parking lot at 1245 Dixwell Avenue on the report of a motor vehicle theft, involving a kidnapping.

Investigation revealed that a 62 year-old Hamden resident entered Family Dollar, 1245 Dixwell Avenue, to “shop for a couple of items.” While shopping, he left his 9 year-old grandson inside of his motor vehicle, a gray 2005 Ford F150, which was “running.” When the grandfather returned to his vehicle, it had been stolen, with his grandson seated inside.

Moments later, officers located the child at McDonald’s, 2300 Dixwell Avenue. A Good Samaritan observed that the child was alone and upset and called police. Officers learned that an individual, described as a black female, 20’s, slim build, “ear length black curls”  wearing a peach colored shirt entered the “running” vehicle and drove it to the Hamden Mart. There, she met with an individual, described as a black male, thin build, “with puffy hair on top”, wearing a peach colored shirt. The male entered the vehicle, at which time the female ordered the 9 year-old out of the vehicle.

During the incident an AMBER Alert was issued. The Department of Children and Families has been notified.

The Hamden Police Department Detective Division is continuing the investigation
