On April 1, 2019 at approximately 6:00p.m. Hamden Police responded to Campus Laundry, 16 Fairview Avenue on the report of threatening.

Investigation revealed that a 36 year-old Hamden resident was “doing laundry” in the presence of her small children. She advised police that Xavier Brathwaite began using profanity in front of her children. Brathwaite then “pushed” a metal cart, which contained the complainant’s 10 month old child. The child fell from the cart and “hit her head.” Hamden Fire Rescue was summoned and provided medical treatment to the child.

While officers attempted to arrest Brathwaite, he became aggressive and began fighting. Brathwaite’s friend, a 17 year-old Hamden resident, intervened and attempted “pull” him away from the officers. Three officers were injured in the struggle. One of the officers suffered a separated shoulder.

Hamden Police arrested Xavier Brathwaite, 18, of 104 Dix Street, Hamden. He was charged with Assault of a Police Officer, Interfering with a Police Officer, Assault in the 3rd Degree, Risk of Injury to a Minor in the 2nd Degree and Breach of Peace in the 2nd Degree. Brathwaite, who was detained on a $50,000.00 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on April 15th. The 17 year-old juvenile was charged with Interfering with a Police Officer. He is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven on April 10th.

Officer Brian Jackson conducted the investigation.
