On December 18th, 2022 at approximately 12:10pm, Hamden Police responded to the area of 100 North Street for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived on scene, they found John Williams, a 37-year-old Hamden resident, in a vehicle suffering from several gunshot wounds. Williams was treated on scene and transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Within moments of the shooting, Hamden Police attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop on Arch Street. The operator disregarded officer’s signals to stop, and attempted to flee the area. The vehicle then got into an accident in the area of Fitch Street and Arch Street. At this time, Hamden Detectives are investigating whether the vehicle was related to the shooting.
Detectives from the Hamden Police Department Major Crime Unit and Crime Scene Unit are actively working on this investigation.
