On 11/27/22, Officer Joseph Seagren was dispatched to the area of Battis Road for a report of a vandalism. The caller stated that someone had broken the rear window of his vehicle, and was currently inside the vehicle. The caller stated that as he approached his vehicle, which was parked on the street in front of his house, a suspect emerged from the vehicle. The suspect fled the scene in a white Kia with rear damage. Hamden Dispatch stated that they received information from New Haven Police that a white Kia was involved in a “shots fired” incident a short time earlier in their town, and that the vehicle was last seen in the area of Fourth Street in Hamden.

During the course of the investigation, Officer Seagren located the suspect vehicle on Fourth Street and attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop. The suspect vehicle refused to stop, and a short pursuit ensued. Officer Seagren advised that the vehicle pulled into a Southern Connecticut State University parking lot on Fitch Street. The operator then exited the vehicle and ran into a parking garage in the lot. Officer Seagren was able to apprehend a Juvenile, out of New Haven, in the stairwell of the parking garage. It was later determined that the white Kia was an unreported stolen vehicle out of New Haven.

The Juvenile was charged with Criminal Trover in the Second Degree, Larceny of a Motor Vehicle (first offense), Interfering with Officers, Reckless Driving and Engaging Police in Pursuit. The Juvenile was scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court for Juvenile Matters on November 28th, 2022. No one was injured during the incident.
