With Halloween 1 week away, the Hamden Police Department would like to share some “Halloween Safety Tips.”

- Children and adults should wear reflective costumes and clothing

- Children and adults should carry a flashlight or glow stick

Children should use face paint in lieu of masks. A mask may obstruct a child’s vision

- Children should be accompanied by adults

- When crossing the street, use the crosswalk or traffic signal. If there isn’t a crosswalk or traffic signal, cross at the corner.

- Do not use electronic devices while crossing the street. Pay attention.

- Always utilize sidewalks. If there are no sidewalks, walk as far to the left as possible, preferably on the shoulder of the roadway, facing traffic

- Motorists are asked to reduce speed, especially in residential neighborhoods

- Take extra time to look for children, especially at intersections or near curbsides

- Enter and exit driveways SLOWLY

The Hamden Police Department will be assigning extra patrols on Halloween, including bicycle patrol units and motorcycle officers. Be safe and enjoy!
