On September 14, 2022, Hamden Police charged two juveniles in connection with a shooting and carjacking investigation. The charges stem from an armed robbery that occurred on July 21, 2022. Hamden Police Officers responded to Third Street near Dixwell Avenue on reports of a shooting and carjacking. The victim, a 46-year-old male from Hamden, was approached by two suspects who demanded his vehicle at gunpoint. During the robbery, the victim was shot in the groin area and suffered serious physical injuries. After being shot, the suspects stole his vehicle.

Detective Shawn Nutcher, along with Detectives from the Hamden Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit, New Haven Shooting Task Force and NHPD Criminal Intelligence Unit conducted an extensive investigation into the carjacking/shooting.

As a result of the investigation, a 16-year-old New Haven resident was charged with robbery 1st degree with a firearm, assault 1st degree with a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and larceny 1st degree.

The other juvenile, a 16-year-old West Haven resident, was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery 1st degree with a firearm, conspiracy to commit assault 1st degree with a firearm and larceny 1st degree.

At the time of their arrests, both juveniles were already in the custody of juvenile detention on unrelated charges. They are scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court for Juvenile Matters on September 15, 2022.
