On September 08, 2022, Hamden Police arrested Brian Ward, age 30 of New Haven, on an outstanding arrest warrant at Meriden Superior Court. He was charged with reckless endangerment 1st degree, criminal attempt to commit assault 1st degree, criminal possession of a firearm and illegal discharge of a firearm. Ward was held on a $250,000.00 bond.
The charges stem from an ongoing investigation into the homicide of Tyishoun Matheney, age 27, that occurred on Butler Street near Goodrich Street on August 08, 2021.
Detective Jomo Crawford, along with Detectives from the Hamden Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit and New Haven Shooting Task Force, conducted an extensive investigation into the shooting.
The investigation revealed that Ward was with Matheney at the time he was shot by another individual. It was also determined that Ward shot a handgun towards the shooter, after the initial shots were fired.
