On October 27, 2018 at approximately 4:00a.m. Hamden Police responded to the area of Paradise Avenue and West Woods Road on the report of suspicious activity. A concerned citizen advised police that they observed a male “leaning into a vehicle, with his feet hanging out of the vehicle.”

Shortly thereafter, Officer Michael White arrived and conducted a motor vehicle stop. The vehicle subsequently fled from the scene at a high rate of speed, striking a utility pole at the corner of Shepard Avenue and West Woods Road. The vehicle’s 2 occupants promptly fled on foot.

Moments later, Officer Enrique Rivera-Rodriguez apprehended the operator of the vehicle on West Woods Road. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen earlier from a Hill Street residence.

Hamden Police arrested a 17 year-old Hamden resident. He was charged with Larceny in the 1st Degree, Interfering with a Police Officer, Evading Responsibility, Engaging an Officer in Pursuit, Operating a Motor Vehicle without a License and Reckless Driving. The juvenile is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven on November 7th.

The investigation is continuing.
