On August 30, 2018 at approximately 7:50a.m. Hamden Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Dixwell Avenue, in the vicinity of Mather Street. An officer had stopped a vehicle for passing a standing school bus.

The officer opened the driver’s side door to exit the police vehicle. Upon opening the door, a Connecticut Transit bus struck it. The door “was bent backwards” and struck the officer in the leg. No injuries were reported. The police vehicle was towed from the scene.

Hamden Police would like to remind motorists that Connecticut General Statute 14-283b states that a motor vehicle operator is required to move over when approaching a stationary emergency vehicle.
